Using the competitor-ad-intelligence skill, analyze the hook patterns in these fictional competitor ads that I copied by hand from public ad libraries for a project-management tool. Competitor A: "Your team is still using spreadsheets?" / "Join 4,000 teams" / "Stop chasing status updates". Competitor B: "Ship projects 2x faster" / "Start free" / "10x your team output in 30 days". Competitor C: "Planning shouldn't feel like work" / "See how it works" / "Task chaos ends today". Tell me the creative gaps and vulnerabilities.

Competitor Ad Intelligence Report: 2026-10-05

Coverage and limits

  • This analysis uses the 9 hand-copied lines you supplied, 3 per competitor. I did no scraping, so I have no data on format, platform, run duration, landing pages or A/B variants.
  • I treated each line as a hook or CTA. Your copy didn't say which line was the headline and which was the CTA, so I inferred that. Counts are raw, and percentages would mislead at n=3.
  • Anything about message match, budget or longevity would be guesswork, so I left it out.

Executive summary

All three competitors sell the same thing: relief from coordination overhead for a generic "team". They differ mainly in tone. A leads with a question and social proof, B with numeric outcomes, and C with empathy. Nobody shows the product, names a customer, targets a specific role, or backs a claim with evidence. B's claims are the most exposed. The open ground is credible, specific, role-targeted creative.

Hook distribution

Hook type A B C
Question 1 ("still using spreadsheets?") 0 0
Social proof 1 ("Join 4,000 teams") 0 0
Outcome 0 2 ("2x faster", "10x in 30 days") 1 ("Task chaos ends today")
Empathy / pain 1 ("Stop chasing status updates") 0 1 ("shouldn't feel like work")
Contrarian 0 0 Weak (the "shouldn't" framing)
Fear/loss Mild (implied by the question) 0 0
Product-led 0 0 0

CTAs:

  • A: "Join 4,000 teams" (social-proof CTA)
  • B: "Start free" (low-friction, urgency)
  • C: "See how it works" (low-friction, passive)

Competitor profiles

  • A: diagnostic and social proof. It is the only one that mixes hook types and the only one with any proof. It names a specific incumbent behavior (spreadsheets), which gives it a displacement angle. "Chasing status updates" is a real, concrete pain.
  • B: outcome-only. Two of its three lines are numeric promises that don't agree with each other: 2x faster, then 10x output. The claims are unsourced, and "10x in 30 days" is a cliché that reads as hype. The CTA is the strongest of the three (free, no commitment).
  • C: brand and feeling. Its lines are all emotional or vague. "Task chaos ends today" promises an outcome with no mechanism. "See how it works" implies a demo but gives no reason to click.

Creative gaps (angles nobody is running)

  1. Product-led and demo hooks. Nobody leads with a feature, a screenshot or a before/after. C says "see how it works" but shows nothing in the copy.
  2. Named or verifiable proof. A's "4,000 teams" is a bare number with no logos, quotes or case-study metrics. B and C have no proof at all.
  3. Role- or segment-specific targeting. Every ad says "team" or "projects". Agencies, engineering, ops, marketing and PMOs go unaddressed.
  4. Contrarian takes. Nobody challenges how project management is done. For example, "Your PM tool is the reason you have status meetings."
  5. Real loss framing. Nobody quantifies what the problem costs, such as hours per week in status chasing or missed deadlines.
  6. Switching and migration. Only A touches displacement (spreadsheets). Nobody addresses "leaving Asana/Monday/Jira" or the pain of import.
  7. Credible, specific outcomes. Claims like "cut weekly status meetings from 3 to 1" or "reclaim 5 hours a week" are unclaimed. B's numbers are the only specifics, and they're not believable.

Overcrowded angles (avoid or sharpen)

  • Generic speed and effort reduction ("2x faster", "shouldn't feel like work", "chaos ends"). All three compete here.
  • The "team" persona. All three address the same undifferentiated audience.
  • Low-friction CTAs. "Start free" and "See how it works" are standard, so they won't differentiate you.

Vulnerabilities

1. B: Unsubstantiated, inconsistent claims

  • Evidence: "2x faster" and "10x output in 30 days" appear together with no source, baseline or proof.
  • Opportunity: Run honest, specific, sourced numbers. Skeptical buyers will trust them more. If B's claims are later challenged or the landing page doesn't back them up, B also risks credibility and platform policy issues.

2. C: Vague positioning with no proof

  • Evidence: All three lines are feelings. There's no mechanism, no number and no customer.
  • Opportunity: Answer C's promise with specifics: "Here's what changes in week one."

3. C: Weak, passive CTA

  • Evidence: "See how it works" gives no reason to click and no stated payoff.
  • Opportunity: A concrete payoff CTA, such as "Import your board in 2 minutes", beats it.

4. A: Narrow target and unverifiable proof

  • Evidence: The spreadsheet question only works on low-maturity buyers. "4,000 teams" has no names behind it.
  • Opportunity: Target teams already on a PM tool and frustrated with it, a segment A's hook ignores. Pair it with named customers.

5. All three: Single-persona dependency

  • Evidence: Nothing in any ad is specific to a role, industry or team size.
  • Opportunity: Run role-specific variants that look sharper than the generic ads around them.

Recommended counter-plays

1. Proof-first outcome (vs. B)

  • Hook: specific, sourced outcome
  • Headline: "Teams cut status meetings by 40%. Here's how we measured it."
  • LP: methodology, a named case study, and a free trial
  • Why test: it takes the outcome angle without B's hype

2. Show, don't tell (vs. C)

  • Hook: product-led, a short demo or before/after
  • Headline: "From scattered tasks to one plan in 90 seconds."
  • CTA: "Watch it happen"
  • Why test: it delivers the mechanism C's ads leave out

3. Role-specific pain (vs. all)

  • Hook: empathy plus a named role
  • Headline: "Agency PMs: stop rebuilding the status report every Friday."
  • Why test: it's specific where all three are generic, and it can be cloned per segment

4. Contrarian (open white space)

  • Headline: "Your project tool isn't the problem. Your status meetings are."
  • Why test: nobody else is challenging assumptions, so it should stand out in the feed

5. Switcher offer (vs. A's spreadsheet frame)

  • Headline: "Moving off your current tool? Import everything in one click."
  • Why test: it targets buyers further down the funnel than A does

Next steps to firm this up

  • Pull the real ads to get format, run duration and landing pages. Long-running ads show what's working, which this copy-only analysis can't.
  • Tell me your product and who it's for, and I can make the counter-plays more specific.
  • The three competitors are fictional, so the findings only hold for these examples.

Real run in an isolated folder with only this skill installed. Only the Skill and Read tools were enabled, so nothing was fetched from the web and no file was written. The example is fictional. The ads were pasted by hand, so live collection from the ad libraries and landing pages was not exercised.
